A golden-winged angel atop a twinkling tree is part of the inaugural Christmas Card Artist Series by Toowoomba’s YellowBridge QLD.

The not-for-profit organisation collaborated with their client and local artist, Dan Wilson, to produce the original gift cards.

“We knew how talented Dan was and how much he enjoyed producing his own artwork,” said Penny Hamilton, YellowBridge QLD Chief Executive Officer.

“We wanted to help him share his talents with the broader community so we came up with the idea of the Christmas cards,” Ms Hamilton said.

“It is hard to choose a favourite but Dan’s reason for painting the golden-winged angel is just beautiful,” she said.

Mr Wilson, who was born with Down syndrome, was concerned that no-one noticed the angels that are often placed on top of people’s Christmas trees.

To make sure she would not be missed again, he painted his angel with her back turned so everyone would see her beautiful, golden wings.

The Golden Angel is one of three designs featured in the Christmas Card Artist Series that is available as a pack of six cards with envelopes.

Mr Wilson has been producing his own art for seven years but this is his first official commission for a Christmas card design.

“I like creating landscapes, collage and portraits. Animal portraits are really fun, especially lions and tigers,” he said.

“I mostly use acrylics but I also like using black charcoal and watercolour pencils. My favourite technique is paint flicking which creates lovely splatter patterns.”

The Christmas card packs can be purchased for $12 from Collectables at 2 Station Street (opposite The Sauce Kitchen).

All proceeds from the sale of the cards will be used to support YellowBridge QLD’s community work in the Toowoomba region.
