Good news for pensioners

If you are an age or disability pensioner in the Toowoomba region then we have good news for you.

Over the past few months, we have been making a big effort to tell as many people as possible about the government-funded Home Assist Secure program.

We deliver this worthwhile program throughout the Toowoomba region and we want more people to benefit from the available assistance.

“We have funding available and we want as many people as possible to know about it,” YellowBridge QLD Home Services General Manager Maria Sloane said (pictured).

The program provides financial assistance to people who receive a government age or disability pension to make their homes safe and secure.

“It’s all about helping people to stay living in their own homes for as long as possible,” Ms Sloane said.

“Feeling safe at home is a major priority for our clients so this program helps make their homes safe, secure and accessible.”

“As more people choose to stay in their own home they will inevitably need to adjust it to suit their changing needs.”

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 90 percent of Australians aged over 65 want to stay in their current home, rather than move into an aged care or residential facility.

Home Assist Secure helps people install, repair and maintain most items related to home safety such as screens, locks, lights, doors and smoke alarms.

It also covers minor modifications that might be needed to improve accessibility around the home such as grab rails, step ramps and bathroom screen removal.

“If we can let every age and disability pensioner in the Toowoomba region know about Home Assist Secure, then that will make us very happy,” Ms Sloane said.
